Every single person in the world in a high flu activity area is at the risk of being infected by the H1N1 flu virus. However, people with chronic diseases such as heart, kidney, liver, lung diseases or diabetes, asthma, obesity, neurological disorders etc. have higher chances of developing severe illnesses and serious complications from the flu.
While it may be common with people who are already infected to experience fever and coughing and sometimes fatigue, sore throat, runny noses, loss of appetite, headache, and muscle aches, rare symptoms of the H1N1 flu include vomiting, nausea and diarrhea. In the case of individuals suffering from chronic medical conditions, the flu could cause them to suffer from worse conditions such as respiratory distress, pneumonia, dehydration, sinus and ear infections and in the worst of cases, even death.
So, for such people, if the following symptoms are observed it is highly advised to seek medical attention immediately:
- Chest pain
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Grey or bluish color of the skin
- Low levels of blood pressure
- Colored or blood-stained sputum
- Sudden dizziness
- Severe vomiting
High levels of temperature which lasts for more than 3 days
