How to treat colds naturally?

Although common cold is not a serious condition, its symptoms can be distressing. After all, stuffed or runny noses, itchy or sore throats, fatigue and fever can make life really difficult. Many patients seek the help of their doctors in the hope that they would be able to prescribe an antibiotic that can cure the condition. However, all their hopes are dashed when they find that there is no drug for this disease. Yes, common cold – being caused by a type of virus – cannot be cured by antibiotics.

However, there are a few ways through which this condition can be treated naturally:
1. Taking plenty of rest: Rest is critical if a person wants to recover quickly because this is the time when the body tries to identify and correct the root cause of this condition. However, this may not be always possible since many people can hardly take enough time out of their busy schedules. To make matters worse, most offices allow no leave from work – unless the affected person shows signs of fever.

2. Maintaining a balanced diet: A healthy diet can supply the vitamins and the minerals that the body needs to fight the cold. In addition, drinking a lot of fluids is absolutely necessary.

3. Inhaling steam or inhalant drops like eucalyptus oil and menthol crystals: This helps to remove the congestion of the nose and may even reduce the soreness of the throat.

4. Using Echinacea capsules or drops: This produces white blood cells which are needed for quick recovery.

5.  Taking vitamin C, ginger or garlic: All these substances have antiviral characteristics and make the immune system stronger.
