What is the confusion of swine flu among the people?

The H1N1 flu – more popularly, known as the swine flu – created a lot of confusion among parents when it became widespread in the late 2008. The confusion is rising every year as the number of people affected by swine flu is increasing. Although the symptoms associated with swine flu are not very serious, it is nonetheless a type of flu. And, like all other flu types, it can be fatal – if immediate care is not given.

Here are the most important matters related to swine flu that parents are confused about:

  1. The number of flu shots that must be given to their children: A flu shot may prevent a kid from developing swine flu. However, one shot is effective for only a few months – after which it must be followed by another shot.

Most doctors recommend that children who are at least 6 years old need two types of flu vaccines – the swine flu vaccine (to protect themselves against the H1N1 virus) and the seasonal flu vaccine (to protect themselves against all other types of viruses). However, kids with weak immune systems need a greater number of the flu vaccines.

2. The symptoms associated with the swine flu: The usual symptoms of swine flu are headache, weakness, coughing, blocked nasal passages and pain in the throat. All these symptoms are similar to those of season flu; so, many parents cannot identify the type of flu that their child has developed.
