How to prevent cold and flu?

Here are the most important ways for preventing cold and flu:

  1. Keeping hands clean: The hands need to be washed with soap and lukewarm water – several times throughout the day. And the hands must be washed thoroughly – for at least 20 seconds – in order to make sure that all the germs from the hands are removed. However, even if the hands are clean, they must not be in contact with the mouth and the nose often. For instance, one must always try to eat with a fork or a spoon – rather than with the hand. This is because infection spreads very easily through the hands.

 

  1. Any surface that has come in contact with an infected person carries germs. As a result, they need to be cleaned with cleansers containing alcohols. Common surfaces include telephones, keyboards of the computer, pens and door knobs.

 

  1. Exercising: A 30 minute workout every day makes the immune system stronger. This, in turn, helps to fight with infection. However, vigorous physical activity should be avoided when the person is suffering from fever or coughing.
4. Taking herbal medicines – such as goldenseal and Echinacea – makes the immune system stronger. This not only alleviates the symptoms of the cold and the flu but can also prevent these from occurring in the first place.
