How can diet help common cold? |
The doctors always give instruction to take plenty of fluids, so that the toxins get flushed out of the body. The best fluids are fruit juices and water, but coffee and tea can be very harmful as they have fluid eliminating properties. One should stay away from milk and other dairy products. Recent studies shows that milk stimulate the release of histamine, which is responsible for the congestion of nose, chest and sinus. Alcoholic drinks also act as dehydrators and should be avoided. They put extra burden on the liver and reduce its working capacity of eliminating the toxins from the body. Foods containing high fat such as pastries, red meat and cheese also need to be avoided. However, a balanced diet is a must for the patient. Multivitamin tablets containing vitamin B complex, vitamin C, nutrients and minerals are very good for the recovery process. Grape juice for example is rich in vitamin C and helps to detoxify the liver. Grape juice have to be taken very carefully as it interact with a lot of medicines such as cholesterol lowering drugs, psychiatric medicines, antihistamines etc. Vitamins however can be dangerous if taken in excess. |
