How can Echinacea be used to treat Cold and Flu?

If you have a cold or flu and want an herbal remedy that will help you with the sickness, Echinacea tincture is something that you can try.

Echinacea is flowering herb with medicinal properties that can be grown easily in your garden. Echinacea roots can be used to make a solution that can be used to treat cold and flu. To prepare Echinacea tincture at home, you will first need a few ingredients. These are – dried and pounded Echinacea root, an orange, ginger, peppermint and brandy, vodka or apple cider vinegar.

Take a clean glass jar and put in the grounded Echinacea root, upto 1/3 of the jar’s capacity. Grate or chop 2 tablespoons of ginger, and add it in the jar. Slice the oranges with the peel, and add 3 or 4 of the slices to the jar. Then add 2 tablespoons of dried or chopped peppermint to the contents of the jar. Then pour in the brandy, vodka or apple cider vinegar to fill the jar.
The mixture should then be shaken everyday for four weeks before straining it through clean cheesecloth. The liquid can be transferred into small bottles with dropper-tops for easier use.

It is important to take the Echinacea tincture in small doses and then gradually increasing the amount a little, if the flu lasts for a while. Continue small doses until the symptoms vanish, and end gradually when you begin to feel better.
