How Children Catch Colds?

It is a fact that children are more likely to suffer from a cold than adults are. This is because they have weaker immune systems, with a lower number of antibodies that are required to fight colds. Also, there are 200 known viruses that can cause a cold, and it is improbable that you will encounter the same one twice. As a result, your antibodies are almost never familiar with the virus that gets you each time.

The main reason a cold spreads is because of nearby people coughing and sneezing. This releases miniature drops of contaminated mucus which could be inhaled or swallowed. Direct physical contact is another way, with infected fingers transferring the germs to the mouth, nose or eyes.

But the reason children suffer so much more from colds than adults is because they are practically inseparable in school. They are bound to get near each other while playing, and they do not shelter themselves if someone nearby coughs or sneezes. They also wipe their faces using their hands, contaminating themselves and any other object they touch. This makes it more likely for other children to catch colds.

It is better to keep children away from each other if one of them is suffering from a cold. And if your child is sick, it is best to let him/her stay at home.
