When to Take Your Child to the Pediatrician?

One of the major worries for any parents is their children’s health. Parents are often paranoid, can exaggerate the simplest of things and rush off to the emergency ward without thinking. However, there are ways to tell whether it is time to take the child to the pediatrician or to comfort him with home remedies.

For instance, if a child has a mild fever, it is not alarming and can be treated with home remedies. However if the temperature is above 101 degrees, or the fever lasts for 3 days or longer, it is advised to take the child to the doctors. Vomiting may be a sign of diarrhea, but as long as the child does not suffer from abdominal pain, dehydration and can consume modest amount of fluids, it is a simple case of nausea and nothing to take very seriously. Coughing and trouble breathing are harder to figure out. If the cough lasts for more than three days it is a concern, and if the rib cage appears to be visible while breathing, or your child has a hard time catching his/her breath, then it is advised to consult a doctor for medical help. Rashes are not serious unless they irritate on a heavy scale. It really isn’t necessary to take a child to the doctors for every bruised knee or mild fever. Just keep your child warm, comfortable and give extra care to him/her.
