How to Care for a Child Suffering from the Flu

While immunizing your children so that they do not catch the flu is the best precaution to take, if and when your child still ends up having the flu regardless, a few measures should be ensured which are discussed below:
In the case where your child is suffering from diarrhea and vomiting, make sure he or she is not dehydrated. After the vomiting is over for a while, keep your child hydrated by giving him or her sips of Gatorade or Pedialyte in small amounts; they will also provide your child with the energy lost during the illness.
The most important thing to do when a child is down with the flu is to ensure proper rest and sufficient amounts of fluids for him or her. If your child wants to get up from bed, it is not needed to force him or her to stay rested. Children are actually pretty good at handling themselves when they are ill, so rest assured the best way to carry out your treatment is by observing your child’s behavior. No matter what, to ensure that you are taking the best measures to take care of your child, it is always best to just give your pediatrician a call and explaining your child’s health and behavior situation. If the symptoms are too concerning, your pediatrician will of course, ask you to bring your child in for inspection and alternative treatment.
